Herbalwai is an adult-use dispensary at 6970 Transit Road in Amherst. Transit Road is the long north-south commercial road that forms Amherst's eastern border with Clarence. The store's tagline is "Your Herb, Your Way," and it calls itself "Buffalo's Premier Cannabis Destination." The most practical things to know are simpler: it opens early several days a week, it has a large parking lot, and pickup orders are free.
The license and the timeline
Herbalwai's license, OCM-RETL-24-000111, is a general adult-use retail license, not a CAURD license. The Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) issued it on June 21, 2024, nearly ten months before the store began selling on April 9, 2025. The license is held by Herbalwai LLC, with David Caspi as the contact on file. The company hasn't published an ownership story or explained its name, so we won't guess at either.
Built for drivers
Herbalwai's pitch is about convenience. The shop's site highlights three features:
- Fast, free pickup. Choose "Pickup" at checkout, and the store notifies you when your order is ready.
- A "giant" parking lot. The site promises you'll always find a spot, which matters on a busy stretch of Transit Road.
- A large selection. It lists premium flower, vaporizers, edibles, beverages, pre-rolls, concentrates, and accessories.
The menu runs on Dutchie and has a dedicated Specials tab, so check it before you go. Brands rotate and we couldn't confirm a fixed list, so we haven't named any.
The Dutchie menu lets you filter by category and product type, and its flower, vaporizer, and edibles tabs are linked directly from the homepage. Herbalwai also keeps a photo gallery page on its site, which is the easiest way to see the storefront and lot before your first trip. Unusually early hours, and how to pay
Herbalwai's posted schedule (a "summer schedule" updated June 26, 2026) stands out because it opens at 7 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays:
- Monday: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Tuesday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Wednesday: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Thursday: 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
- Friday: 7 a.m. until 10 p.m.
- Saturday: 9 a.m. until 10 p.m.
- Sunday: 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
The store says it may change opening times on some days and that Google shows its most accurate hours, including holidays. Now that it's October, check Google or call (716) 242-1080 before you plan a pre-work stop. Herbalwai's state filing lists a 10 a.m. weekday opening, so the early schedule may be seasonal.
Joint Commerce's listing says Herbalwai accepts cash and debit. That's the norm in New York, where federal banking rules keep most dispensaries from taking credit cards. Newsletter signups require age verification, and the store posts on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube. Social media is the quickest way to hear about new products and schedule changes.
The public record so far
There's less third-party review data on Herbalwai than on many Buffalo-area shops. Leafly and Weedmaps didn't have a substantive review profile we could summarize, and the Joint Commerce listing repeats the shop's own description. Read recent Google reviews before deciding, and treat the "premier destination" language as marketing rather than an independent ranking.
When you read those Google reviews, look for patterns in the details that matter for a pickup-focused store: whether online orders are accurate and ready when promised, how long the wait is at the counter during the after-work rush, and whether staff can explain the difference between similar products. Recent reviews say more about current service than older ones, since staff and inventory change. If you leave a review yourself, mention the time and day you went; it helps other early-morning shoppers.
Who shops the Amherst side of Transit
Amherst is Western New York's most populous suburb and home to the University at Buffalo's North Campus, so a store here serves a mix of commuters, students who are 21 and older, and established suburban households. Transit Road (State Route 78) is one of the area's main shopping corridors, and most customers arrive by car. That's why the store emphasizes its parking lot.
The early openings fit commuters. A 7 a.m. opening three days a week means you can place an order online the night before and pick it up on the way to work. Pickup is free, and the store sends a notification when the order is ready, so you don't wait at the counter.
For deals, the Dutchie Specials tab is the most reliable source, since the shop doesn't post standing weekly promotions on its homepage. If you're comparing prices with Depew stores, remember that some stores show pre-tax prices and others include tax. New York's 13% retail cannabis tax (9% state plus 4% local) adds noticeably to a pre-tax price.
How it compares on Transit Road
Transit Road now has several licensed stores, which makes comparison shopping easy. Farther south in Depew, Herbal I.Q. at 6300 Transit Road opened in July 2023 as one of Western New York's earliest licensed stores. Dream Daze at 5100 Transit Road offers same-day delivery and education-focused service. Within Amherst, OCM records list Tree Head Culture on North French Road and Leaf Plug on Sheridan Drive. Herbalwai's advantages are early weekday openings and easy parking near Williamsville and East Amherst. It doesn't advertise delivery, so Dream Daze is the better nearby choice if you want an order brought to you.
The Northtowns market has filled in quickly. OCM records show Tree Head Culture opened in February 2024 and Leaf Plug in August 2024, both before Herbalwai, and Weed King opened on Niagara Falls Boulevard in June 2026. With that many nearby options, early hours and an easy lot are what set Herbalwai apart. Shoppers who live closer to UB's North Campus or Sheridan Drive may find one of those stores more convenient day to day.

A good match for
Herbalwai is a practical choice for Northtowns commuters who want to stop before work, Williamsville and East Amherst residents who want an easy parking lot, and anyone who orders ahead and wants a fast pickup. Shoppers who choose stores by their review history or an owner's story should compare a few Transit Road options first. The High Today dispensary directory lists the full Erie County lineup.
