A dispensary that bills itself as Long Island's largest says it will open this fall in Deer Park, and state records confirm it holds an active license. Hypotency, at 880 Grand Blvd., says the store will have more than 30 ordering kiosks and over 100 parking spaces.
The opening would add to one of the thinnest legal markets in New York. As of Oct. 12, state license data shows just 17 adult-use dispensaries operating in Suffolk County and none in Nassau, in a region of nearly 3 million people.
What we know about Hypotency
The store announced its plans in a company press release dated Oct. 10. Its claims include:
- Location: 880 Grand Blvd., Deer Park, which the company describes as across from the Deer Park Outlets
- Ordering: more than 30 kiosks plus a self-order wall with digital menus
- Layout: display islands by category (flower, pre-rolls, edibles, vapes, concentrates) and a separate express pickup area
- Parking: more than 100 spaces
- Opening: "this fall." No date has been announced, and the company says it will tell its VIP list first
High Today checked the license against the state's Current OCM Licenses dataset. License OCM-CAURD-24-000150 is a Conditional Adult-Use Retail Dispensary (CAURD) license held by DDRJ Holdings LLC at 880 Grand Blvd. It was issued in May 2024 and runs through May 2028. Its status is Active, and the store is listed as not yet operational, which is expected before opening day.
CAURD licenses are New York's first-round retail licenses, reserved for people with past cannabis convictions, or their family members, and for certain nonprofits.
The "largest on Long Island" claim comes from the company. The release gives no square footage, and we could not independently verify it.
Long Island's legal gap
Suffolk's 17 open dispensaries run from Farmingdale and Deer Park in the west to Riverhead and the Hamptons in the east. Farmingdale and the Southampton area have three each. In Nassau, the only storefronts in the state data are two medical sites run by registered organizations. No adult-use stores appear.
For comparison, Erie County, with roughly 950,000 residents at the 2020 Census, has 49 open adult-use dispensaries. Suffolk had about 1.5 million residents in the same count.
The pipeline is bigger than the current map. State data lists 23 more Suffolk storefront licenses that are active but not yet open, and 19 more in process. Many are in the same western Suffolk area as Hypotency:
- Deer Park: Long Island Cannabis Club on East Industry Court has been open since late 2024. Two more CAURD licensees (Big Jule's on Long Island Avenue and Legendary Bliss on Connor Lane) hold active licenses but are not yet open. Two more Deer Park retail licenses are in process, including one at 990 Grand Blvd.
- West Babylon: The High Life opened on Wellwood Avenue in May. State records list Oct. 15 as the opening date for East Coast Buds, also on Wellwood Avenue, though it was still marked non-operational on Oct. 12.
Why it matters
Statewide, new store openings slowed sharply this summer. Long Island is the region where each new legal store makes the biggest difference. For much of Nassau and western Suffolk, the nearest licensed shop can be a long drive away, and unlicensed smoke shops have filled the gap. We have covered the state's continuing crackdown on illicit shops. More legal options nearby make that enforcement easier to sustain.
What happens next
Hypotency still has to open. That depends on final state inspections and local requirements. We will update this story when the company announces a date. The company says it is hiring across the store.
Before you shop anywhere new, confirm the store is on the state's dispensary verification list. For background on the statewide numbers, see our coverage of New York passing 705 open dispensaries. For adults 21+.
